A hot batch of “The Drake” arrived in the mail box today. Always a good day. Good writing and better photography. It’s my favorite fly mag. They know how to do it right.
One of many local shops, The Missoulian Angler, has a 70% off all flies sale going on now. I stopped by and spent some change on what would have been a gas tanks worth of streamers. Gotta get while the gettin’ is good.
New flies and a hot off the press Drake.
I doubt I will be able to not go in at least once more before the sale is over. I have been twice already and bins are emptying out quick. Isn’t a Christmas bonus for flies anyway? I think so.
Today is a Bob Dylan “Blowin’ In The Wind” kind of day. Hopefully the wind blows us towards some redfish in the marsh soon.
Happy second night of Hanukkah.
Today was the first day of winter and the shortest day of the year. It’s brighter from here on out. Here in Montana we had about 8 hours of light, just enough to work right through it and not see the sun. I can’t imagine how they do it up in AK. That must be a terrible case of the “Shack Nasties”.
It was fitting to wake up to snow. We haven’t had much down in the valley but the ski hills are starting to look pretty fluffy.
Happy winter everyone. Make sure you buy yourself a fly rod for Christmas. It is good for the soul.
Lots of fishing here in town. It’s hard not to take notice.
It’s only fitting to find theses gems around the Downtown honey holes.
It adds a poetic irony to stereotypical Fly Fishing.
Is a trout vandal a good vandal?
Fishing under the lights is almost “Game Day” like.
Doesn’t replace getting out there, but its fuel for the fire.
School is on a break but that means all things outside go into overdrive. Ducks and geese, trout, deer and skiing are all in the immediate future. Life is good.
Workin that duck magic.
Its warmer today and the famous Missoula inversion makes it like we live in a snow globe.
Its Friday and we are all pleased about that.
This time of year is great. The ducks are flying. Late season archery gets you into the woods. And the fishing isn’t dead if you can find water without ice chunks.
But it sucks. Finals. College. Lots of studying. Tourists season in the library. Too much time inside with your eyes in a book and not enough outside looking for flashing wings or that thingamabobber to twitch back up stream.
So sometime you have to unload… Literally.
That always seems to help. Well that’s all I have time for now. Off to cram the Jeffersonian political system into my already overwhelmed brain.
And what does that have to do with fly fishing?
